While on vacation in Las Vegas, GC member Denny Aungst attended car show displaying the 2003 models of new cars and some upcoming prototypes at the Las Vegas Convention Center. On these pages are some pictures showing some of the models that caught his (or his woman's) eye. Of course the Dodge Viper is always an eye opener. Lets start there.
To the right is a row of Vipers portraying several years of production. To the left is an actual SCCA race car they brought for display.

Cool.

Ford Thunderbird, Classic lines are back!

Now, why would my girlfriend insist on sitting in a Mazda Miata when she has a perfectly good Spyder to ride around in? There was a (red) Spyder there too, but she didn't sit in that. Go figure.

In a sea of red cars, Mazda has come out with a cool Protoge' option. This tangerine beauty is the Mazda "speed". It is a very limited Protoge' and is supposed to be quite a twist on the 4 door sporty cars people are driving these days. I actually talked to the sales rep quite a while about this beauty.

Melissa also thought this car, a Mitsubishi eclipse, was one she just had to sit in. It was a "Spyder" convertible. The color in this pic looks like a silver color, but it wasn't. It really was a cool green/silver color that was an eye catcher.

One of the few European models on display. Yes, this one is real Lamborghini and not a reproduction body on a Fiero chassis we see so often.

Yet another red car on display, but shouldn't all Ferraris be red? I think there is a law somewhere in Italy about that.
Let me look it up.

This car show had many vehicles to see. They had "Hummers" and SUVs. Just about every make and model.

.
The next section of this page is some of the customs and prototypes that were on display. Check them out below.

Now here is an unusual car. No, you cannot buy this at a "Mark 5" dealer near you. This was on display as well as some custom imports and classic muscle to break up the "new car" monotany.
This is a picture of me getting an autographed poster of the "Mark 5" (pictured above) for my unusual car stuff collection. This man, real name is Peter Fernandez, was the voice of speed racer, racer X, and the writer-director of all 52 classic episodes, many years ago in the cartoon world. We chatted about the cartoon, why the "Mark 5" didn't have the "trick" stuff on it like in the show and, of all things, ebay.

Here is a cool car. This was Vin Deisel's Car in the movie "XXX". Wonder where they keep the rocket launchers and other cool gadgets?

Custom Vehicles:

Below: There was a local car club in Vegas that was really into customs. These vehicles were really custom. They had things like a suburban with 8 television screens and a killer sound system, radical paint and the latest in street performance.

Prototype Vehicles:

Chevy probably had the coolest concept at the show. Check out the new "Chevy Nomad". This shows how Chevrolet is really taking to the trend in classic body lines matched to new car dependability and technology.
