8-19-2006

Garage Club members attended Beaver Springs August 19, 2006 "Test & Tune" session. Club attendance included Dave Lehr, Chris Ives, Jeff Zimmerman, Scott Runkle, Red Florida, Chas Pinkerton, Kerry Moyer and myself. (Please e-mail me if I forgot your name!) Dave put up our EZ up tent, which came in handy as it began to rain late in the day. Several members brought a grill, food, and drinks to share with everyone.

Everyone was hoping to catch
Frank Tankalavage run for the 100 MPH club spot, but he couldn't make it. We didn't let that dampen our spirits. ScottRunkle was the fastest member there with a high 130 MPH pass followed by Red Floridas Corvette and Chas Pinkerton's cool Pro-Street Astre. Red, Kerry, and Chas actually drove thier cars to and from the event!

I didn't race myself, but took the opportunity to teach my wife Melissa how to drag race. She chose the Spyder which ran faster with her in it than when I drove it. Her best was a 16 flat at 87 something MPH. Not too bad for a a stock 4 cylinder ricer. Heck, she beat the Dodge in the picture below as well as being faster than a couple Mustang GTs that were there. Maybe we'll have a new member soon, she took to it like a duck to water.

Plenty of other fast cars were there to test including what looked like a 50s Super Stock car that was just pulled out of mothballs. He said he just bought it and wanted to "feel it out" so he took quite a few runs before getting it up to it's potential. The car even had a single reservoir master cylinder. I think he has a little upgrading to do.

All in all it was a cool day and we are hoping to attend another one before the season is up. Stay tuned.
