Some of Matt's
other rides:

The Camaro above is an all-original 1971 Z-28 which I was the 13th owner when I bought it. I bought the car in NJ in 2001.

I talked to the original owner before I purchased it. He actually bought it for road racing in New York when it was brand new.

The car came with a portfolio of pics during the paint work along with the order sheet for the car, a list of the owners, & a letter from the 2nd owner about the car. The motor, trans, & rear end were all original to the car since new.

The car was painted once in it's Placer Gold hue w/black stripes. it has black standard vinyl interior.

The drivtrain consists of a LT-1 330HP 350, M-22 rock crusher trans, & 4.10 10-bolt Posi rear.

Matt told me,"This is the car I should've kept out of the other's I've owned."

Matt's bike is a 2005 Harley Davidson Nightrain, which was bought brand new.

Matt said, "I've put over 15,000 miles on it. It's my new love. I've gone to Daytona Bike Week last year & I'm going to ride down Myrtle beach this year."
"It has Vance & Hines Big Radius pipes & the stock motor (for now), but I'm looking into some Screaming Eagle motor upgrades in the near future."

Nice bike, Matt.

This is Matt Murphy's "new" '67 SS396 Camaro. He picked this up at Carlisle and it is a very sweet ride. Watch for further updates on the details of this car. Till then enjoy some quick picks that Matt sent us below and to the column on the right.

Matt sent me some pics of his "new" '67 Big Block SS396 Camaro. This baby looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor! Above, you can see both of his rides parked nose to nose. See more of his '67 pics lower on the page. (After his featured member article.)

Matt stated, "This '72 Camaro RS, which is now a Z-28 replica, was my 1st car. In July of '07 it will be 15 years that I've owned it."

"I bought it at summer Carlisle in '92 from a gentleman from West Virginia named Steve. Steve & his brother owned it for 10 years while they swapped it 3 times between them. Steve was a body man & his brother was a mechanic. Steve was out of work & needed some money, but his brother didn't want the car anymore. That's when I aquired the car."
"It was originally Placer Gold with a Black vinyl roof & standard black interior. It had a 350 cubic inch engine and a 2-barrel carb, a column-shifted th350 transmission, and a 10-bolt open rear with 3.08 gears from the factory. The car was eventually sprayed medium blue w/black stripes by Steve when he aquired it. His brother put together a '69 350 cubic inch engine that looked like a 1972 LT1 w/350HP, a Saginaw 4-speed transmission, and a 3.73 Positraction rear end for the car when I bought it. It stayed that way for about 2 years until a couple of events that changed the way I looked at the car.

First, I got beat in a street race by a certain '71 Chevelle (orange with a white T-stripe from Auburn). Then, I went to Numidia and recieved several time slips, the best being a 16.40 second quarter mile time... (I thought I should've been in the high 12's, how young and dumb I was.) That's when the madness began."

"My Camaro has had 2 different engines, 3 different rear ends, 8 different 4-speeds, 5 different clutch kits, 6 different shifters, 3 different sets of manifolds/headers, 4 different sets of mufflers/exhaust, 5 different sets of wheel/tire combos, 2 different interiors, 2 different hoods, & other high-performance pieces that have seemed to slip my mind for now."
The current combo in my Camaro is a 385 cubic inch Small Block Chevy built by Andy Jensen about 10 years ago. It's been rebuilt once by Andy since the original build. It has a 1972 LT-1 block, the Z-28 which it came from still roams the streets of Minersville. The block was bored .040 over, a SCAT crank, 6 inch Crower rods, Lunati pistons & a deep sump Canton oil pan.

The solid-lift cam is made by Crower, though I'm not sure on duration, the lift is .519 intake and .540 exhaust. The heads are DART II, World Products, cast iron which have 2.05 intake and 1.60 exhaust valves, double springs, and 1.75 Lunati roller rockers. The intake and carburetor combo is a port-matched Holley strip dominator and a Bo Laws 750 cfm Holley Double-Pumper. A Carter street/strip fuel pump feeds the engine it's fuel. The Distributor, Blaster 2 coil, & 6 AL ignition box are made by MSD. Exhaust is exited by Hooker Super Comp headers through a mandrel-bent 3-inch exhaust made by Torque Tech and 2-chamber Flowmaster mufflers. The engine is kept cool through a Be-Cool radiator, Edelbrock water pump, & a GM clutch fan.

.

"The transmission is a Borg-Warner Super T-10 (2.64 1st gear) with a Hurst Competition Plus shifter, a Centerforce pressure plate, a Hays clutch disc, a Centerforce throwout bearing, & a Lakewood scattershield. The rear end is a 12-bolt carrier with Richmond 4.56 ring & pinon, Moser axles and pinon yoke, a Moroso Brute Strength Posi unit, a Jeg's aluminum axels cover, & GM aluminum brake drums. The axle housing & posi unit were taken out of Chris Ives' '70 SS Camaro, the one he called "Frankenstein".

The car has Competition Engineering subframe connectors, Lakewood 90/10 front drag shocks, Southside Machine lift bars, Weld Draglite wheels, & BFGoodrich Drag Radials."

.

The interior was done 8-9 years ago by Ron Kozura of Llwellyn,PA. I wanted something nobody else had & he told me that he had some material that would be different that anyone elses' at that time. He showed me the material & I said," That's perfect. Let's go with that."

He recovered the seats & made new door panels with leather. He used to work at the Tannery in Fleetwood, PA until he retired. He told me AFTER he was done, that he had no training in doing interiors of any kind. He only knew how to work with the material. I used to give out business cards of his at the shows I went to & his business has really taken off. He also does stock as well as different interiors, replaces vinyl & convertable roofs on cars, as well as airplane interiors.

"My best 1/4 time so far is 12.11 @ 119.56 MPH at Maple Grove Raceway. I've also raced at Numidia & Beaver Springs as well. I placed in the top 6 of Numidia's Friday Night street stick points & won the Championship in 2001."
