The Garage Club donates 100 dollars to Lykens Police &
Fireman benefit:
10-08-2007: Dave headed in to pick up his tires at Patton Tire. Patton Tire sponsored
the event by giving away two free tires to the burnout contest. Details below.
He stated,"Patton Tire in Millersburg & Halifax supplied 2 new tires to
the winner of the Cops & Rodders Burn Out Contest in Lykens. Patton Tire made
good on their promise by giving burn out contest winner, Dave Lehr 2 new BFG Drag
Radials valued at $380. Thanx Patton Tire & Garage. You are cool."
What a great thing to do not only to benefit the police department, but to promote
the burnout contest and the hot rod culture! Dave also verified that Patton Tire
will give any current Garage Club Member a 10% discount. All they have to do is show
thier current GC card. If YOU are in need of some tires for your ride, why not give
them some business. Tell them we sent you...
Pics from Lykens "Cops & Rodders" ---> 9-15-2007
The "Cops and Rodders" annual event is not your ordinary,
should I say "stale", car show. This is a "cruise in" event where
there are ten people's choice awards given over all of the cars. There are no classes.
(GC cars were awarded several of the these people's choice awards.) The state police
helicopter landed on the grounds where you could also check it out. Then they have
a sanctioned, yes I said sanctioned, burnout contest. Afterward, all cars are invited
to parade/cruise through town with a police escort. Definitely not bad for a car
cruise event organized by the police department. Top notch organizing if I must say
so!
102 cars showed at the event with 17 registering for the burnout contest
The weather was very nice, being overcast and breezy so it wasn't too hot. The wind
was also a plus as it dispersed the burnout smoke between each contestant.
The main attraction was by far the burnout contest. Each contestant was introduced
and they parked with the rear tires on a steel plate bolted to the ground. The front
wheels were chucked and a string was tied to the driver's wrist to let him know to
stop in an emergency. Water and soap was put on the plate to help get things started
and the driver was told to do his thing.
After which, a panel of judges rated the burnout and the crowd cheered for their
favorites. Votes were tallied and three places were awarded with trophies and one
people's choice burnout was awarded. The winner, Dave Lehr, also recieved a gift
bag and a pair of tires fromPatton Tire Company. That's good, because Dave popped
his! Other GC members who were burnout participants included Jeff Zimmerman, Chas
Pinkerton, Kerry Moyer, and Ron Lemin.
Watch the 5, yes "5" videos of the event and the pics below. They put me
in a prime filming position! Enjoy...
Above you can see the burnout area. Mike Potts found himself in a
judges seat for the burnout contest. Below are each GC member in the burnout contest.
