Barrett Jackson Party held in Pine Grove at Jeck’s Service Center:
photos and article by Denny Aungst
Well we had a good turnout for the annual Barrett/Jackson party and winter picnic even though the venue was changed three times. There was enough food there to feed a third world country. Everyone who came brought something to eat or drink. Our entire platform lift was covered with dishes. Thanks to everyone!
So who was the big winner in the bidding war? Follow along as I break the auctions down. Well the first item was lot #981, a ‘57 Chevy Nomad survivor car that was 90% original. This was won by Rick Wetzel on a bid of $57,000. The car actually sold for 62,700 dollars. (Keep in mind all actual selling prices include all fees and will be higher than the bidding prices so the final price is about 10% higher.)
Next we saw lot #987, a plum crazy, ’71 hemi re-creation ‘Cuda convertible. Can you beleive the winner of this one was Mike Potts? The car sold for $84,700 and was a 4 speed car.
Lot #990.1 was a ‘56 Chevy 2 door custom hardtop. This was a beautiful car done as a pro-touring ride with an LS2 and many other modern components. Chas Pinkerton guessed this one right at a cool 95,700 dollars.
This year we had no issues with connecting to the Barrett Jackson web site for the preview pics. There were several computers running for everyone to browse the cars. Denny’s Dad even provided a big screem TV on top of one of the Snap on tool boxes where it could be viewed from anywhere in the shop. Dave ran the board and even did play by play bidding when our chosen cars went accross the block. It was very exciting that way and we all had a blast.
Our next round started with taking bids on lot 994. This car was a very cool ’34 Ford Woodie Wagon Custom. This had the best of everything and took us all by surprise with the price it brought. Since the bidding was all under the selling price, this was a no winner auction and the pot carried to the next round. What was the price on this one? How does 140, 800 dollars sound?
Lot 1001, a ‘61 Plymounth Fury that was a radical custom with 426 cid HEMI, Fuel Injected, automatic, Kugel independent suspension and chopped top custom leather interior. Named “Outkast” this car was Car Craft Grand Champion and ISCA winner. CJ Young picked this one up as a double pot from the carry over when he correctly bid the somewhat low 58,300 dollar price.
Lot 1008 was our first round that had a bit of a snag involved. A ’69 mustang Mach 1 and ground-up rotisserie restored Grand National champion powered by a 428 CJ and many, many options brought a 128,700 dollar price tag. The snag? Well, in our haste to get the numbers on the board, two people placed the same bid amount and had to split the round. Denny and Chris Ives both claimed the prize in this round.
Lot 1011, a rare Mustang Shelby gt350H done in red for Hurst, was run accross the block taking 95,700 dollars and brought our first double pot exact bidder of the evening. Jeff Archer claimed this round.
Lot 1021, a matching numbers and pristine, blue ’69 Camaro California RS Z28 was won by who else but Kerry Moyer. This car took 104,500 dollars.
Our next auction was a pair of cars. Lots #1029 +1029.1 were a matching set of orange Camaros. The first was a ’69 big block SS396 and the second was a 2010 SS Camaro. The both vehicles went for a grand total of 104,500 dollars. Sounds pretty good considering. Denny won this one with an exact bid and double prize.
Carrying on his win, Denny made a second exact bid on lot #1034, a ’71 Plymouth ‘Cuda Convertible with a 383 and 4 speed. Only 33 made, this was an original and went for a cool 99,000 dollars earning him another double.
Lot #1038, a ‘67 Olds 442 2 door hardtop that underwent a full and correct numbers matching restoration brought 71,500 dollars and was a split pot won by and exact bid by Dave Lehr and Kerry Moyer.
Our final round winner of the evening was again Denny when he made another exact bid on lot #1039.2 which was a ’69 Cougar XR7 Convertible with a 428 CJ. This was a verified unrestore but original numbers matching car that brought 79,200 dollars and another double for Denny.
Our final lot before midnight was lot #1045, a ’65 Impala. There was no winner and broadcasting ended at midnight. This also ended the rounds and the annual Barrett Jackson party. So I guess you could say Denny was the big winner of this year’s event. Sounds like good karma for stepping up with the location and prep work his Dad required for us to hold it there.
