The next GC meeting will be held as usual on the first Thursday of the month, September 4th, 2008. The September meeting will be held at Chris Ives' basement soda fountain in Hegins. The address is 531 Hill Rd., Hegins, PA 17938. The time for the official meeting starting around 7:00. E-mail Chris for directions or give him a call at 610-972-4256. No future club meetings have been scheduled in advance at this time. Want one at your place? Speak up at the next meeting.

What went on at the last meeting?:
August's Garage Club meeting was held at Denny & Melissa Aungst's car barn in Pine Grove, PA. Melissa and I would like to thank everyone who showed up as this was a record attendance for a regularly scheduled Garage Club meeting. There were over 100 guests and the " after-meeting hang out" went on till 1:00 am, when the generator ran out of gas. I hope I got to talk at least a little bit to everyone there. If I missed you I appologize, it was a busy night!
The Mustang didn't make it to the meeting due to several issues, so if you showed up to see that, you can view the latest pics below at the Highland show. Hopefully it'll be back soon so I can drive it to a meeting and show it off there.

Melissa did a great job arranging the food and giving the barn a good house cleaning. My brother Scott and his wife Jen also did some cooking for the meeting, Dev and Alex Trexler brought fruit salad and candy, Chas brought some macaroni salad, and Matt and Karen Doyle pitched in with chips and pretzels. So, thanks to each and every one of you for helping take up some of the burden and making the evening a success.

The meeting had a bit of a late start with some heavy rain for members on the way who went back with their rides to get a foul weather vehicle. It turned out to be a beautiful night and our overflow parking, which was filled to the brim as well, stayed solid.
Participants who signed the roster included Chas & Justin Pinkerton, Dave Lehr & Crystal Jones, Matt & Karen Doyle, Jeff Zimmerman, Rindy Foulds, Jon Winisko, Derek Griffiths, Devin & Alex Trexler, Ed & Craig Wassell, Skyler Milheim, Bob "Bolt" Zubrickie, Eric Getz, Butch Hechler, Kerry Moyer, Matt Murphy, Doug Garrison, Jeff Goodman, Brad Rebuck, "Flashback" Bill & his Dad, Bill Stuck Sr., Terry Lenker, Larry Hoke, Ken Early, Craig and Kyle Morgan, "Willy Bill" Schoffstall & the "Wiconisco Kid" Chal Schoffstall, Art Machamer, Wayne & Trinity Witmer, Chris Ives, Marlin Whitcomb and his kids, Hunter & Ian, Jim & Logan Beard, Kevin & Ann Hoffman, with our youngest official member, Kevin Hoffman Jr., Pete and Karen Tobash, Dan Lex, April & Mike Klimger, Brad Hartline, Michael Potts, Rick Wetzel, Kris Warfel, Joe DiFalco, Charles "Red" Florida, "Hot Rod" Updegrave Jr., Realph Beaver Jr., Jim & Jill Zerby with their kids, James, Emily, & Kara, Mel Reichart, Brad from Napa Auto Parts, Jim Ryals from Goodyear Tires, Dennis & Marie Aungst Sr., Rich and Anna Wertz, RonnieAungst & Bonnie Shadler, Ken & Carol Seiger, Scott and Jen Aungst with their son, Scotty, Ashley Aungst & Cory Merwine, Sandy & Bert Witmer, Terry Vaughtan, and Denny & Melissa Aungst, the hosts. 3. We would like to see as many rides as possible show up. We arranged a special parking area if we have committed hot rods and classics show up. The park said they would have to be there early, like 10 am for reserved parking, however. Keep that in mind!)

  4. Craig Morgan brought the GC logo to 3-d life!
    1. An attention getter all evening was this cool rat fink style model car sitting on the picnic table. This was a 3-d replica of the club logo brought to life. Dave brought up the creator of this little work of art. Criag Morgan talked a little about his creative hobby. Craig even donated this sweet ride to the club and it currently resides with Matt Doyle. See the car below and Craig to the right of Dave below:
    2. Keep in mind, even model cars are cool. Are you into them? Bring some of your handiwork to the meetings. We even appreciate the miniatures!
  5. Flashback Bill gave us our Beaver Springs talk on upcoming events:
    1. We talked about Flashback Friday
      • Flashback Friday happened the next night. I was there but didn't have a camera with. I took the night off to enjoy the event. See the results and pics at www.beaversprings.com
      • There were several members in attendance. It was a great evening as usual. Noteable events from Garage Club members include capt. Ed Brady winning the WFO class and Butch Markel running an exact 12.25 quarter consistantly all night long. Not sure how far he got, but it was close to the end when we left.
    2. We talked about the Stop Light Drags.
      • The rules have changed. If you plan on competing please go over the rules at www.beaversprings.com
      • This month's Stop Light Drags conflicts with the Circuit Saturday "Small Block" route on the 23rd! WE WILL STILL NEED HELP. Please plan on being there to help even if you don't race or get knocked out early. Also be in Garage Club shirts. If you don't have one, please ask and we will get you in one for that day!
        1. There should be a tent & table set up to handle any new memberships headed our way and we should have T-shirts and sticker for sale as well.
        2. If you would like to help, the jobs that Bob assigns are minor and don't keep you working all evening. The jobs include helping get people signed up in the proper class and passing out time slips at the lower tower.
      • Visit www.beaversprings.com for up to date details on the events and a full schedule for the year.

    3. Keep up on the latest at the Diary of an American Street Racer Page.
  8. Speedshopper.com weekly $50 winners
    1. Dave talked about Kevin Schappell's new hot rod parts shopping web site. There is a feature where you can submit yourself to win a 50 dollar gift card to places like Jegs or Summit. This month we have had 2 winners in the club for the $50 gift card giveaway at www.speedshoppers.com
    2. When you win they want to know
      • Store for the gift card. (Summit, Jegs, Etc)
      • Your Full Name, Address and Phone Number.
      • A picture of you and your ride, or just your ride so we can put it on the homepage to let people know that this is a real contest.
    3. Our two lucky club members include Chris Ives & Chris Harner (known as harner from the club message boards.) Congrats guys!

Matt & Karen Doyle receive Garage Club appreciation plaque.
After another great summer, we decided to show our appreciation to a member who went above and beyond to make the club a top notch group. Matt and Karen Doyle was an obvious choice to receive this plaque, especially with the popularity of the upcoming club picnic at Knoebels Grove. Matt went to almost EVERY club event with a car load of T-shirts and stickers. He also spent most of his time at those events getting them to the people who wanted them. Not only that, he collected our dues for two years now, got every members contact information organized, and even received club members to his home for what ever reason. Because of Matt and Karen's devotion and work, the club has the surplus of funds to have the fully paid club picnic. Matt has literally more than doubled the club's size since he took the membership coordinator reigns. Thanks, Matt, you deserve the award.

This beautiful award plaque was provided by Bob "Bolt" Zubrickie and another product of his fine craftsmanship! Visit his site at
http://www.boltsengraving.com for your award needs.

Williams Valley High School had its sixth annual car show on July 19, 2008.

Williams Valley School District lives right in the heart of our largest division of active members. Covering the Williamstown and Tower City areas, as well as the same areas the "Small Block" Circuit Saturday cruise was developed, it is just a given that the event would be crawling with Garage Club members and their rides. This event was a fund raiser for the athletics department and this year was their largest turnout yet at approximately 180 cars on the field. Like most shows, the cars were absolutely captivating. Even though the Garage Club is more about driving the cars than showing them, there was something here everyone would enjoy.
On top of all this going on, there were even two sets of entertainment going on. All day they had a DJ spinning tunes and annnouncing the literally hundreds of door prizes. Later they had Brad Crum, the areas premier Elvis impersonator put on a show. There were plenty of cool drinks for us to survive the hot day. There were three places of awards for each class and competition was stiff in every one.

All in all, it was a fun day to relax and socialize with a lot of car buffs who appreciated every vehicle attending. Held every mid July, watch for the event next year. Click any image for larger sized view.
Email me for a full resolution copy of any picture you may want. (This year's pictures were taken by Melissa Aungst.)

Buddie's Log Cabin 50's Cruise in returned on July 19, 2008.
Plenty of cars used to show up at Buddie's Log Cabin restaraunt for their annual 50's style cruise in. After a 4 year absence of this event, this year Buddie's paved their lot and brought the event back. They sell cheap cheeseburgers and milkshakes for the event. There are also plenty of door prizes given away as well as people's choice awards for the cars. 50's music is played by a professional disc jockey all evening long. We had a very large club member turnout. There was a show at Williams Valley High School earlier in the day and they all seemed to migrate from there to the evening "cruise-in". Burgers, shakes, and tunes. Buddie's 50's night is always a hit in Pine Grove.

Denny & Melissa's Mustang debuts at Highland Daytona's annual car show, July 20th.
Denny and Melissa Aungst's resto-mod '65 Mustang is almost done. Highland Daytona put on a car show on July 20th to showcase their products and the star of the show was definitely their new bolt-on suspension upgrade for the Mustang. Mike Potts rode down with them to check out the cars, shop, and the rolling chassis dyno. Where they wound up was mostly under the Mustang talking to people about the reason for developing such a system. Want one on your Mustang? Now is the time to get one for 1/2 price by allowing Highland to install a system to test fit on your car. Call Rick at Highland Daytona / Max G suspensions or click this link for more pics & details.

Dev & Alex's Trexler's wedding day ends in police negotiation, July 26th.
GC member's Dev & Alex Trexler tied the knot on Saturday, July 26th, 2008. Several GC members missed the Circuit saturday Small Block route to watch the event. How many of us would have thought of the exciting evening we were in for? Well, the ceremony was very nice, their were quite a few hot rods parked out front for the wedding party and quite a few guests, the reception area was beautiful, the food was great, dancing got under way. Nothing unusual for a reception with the exception of "Sanford and Son" playing as the theme song for the newlywed's entrance. (Great touch, by the way!)

Then the burnouts started. Let's just say that the owner's of the pavilion didn't appreciate it and called in the police before attempting to eject everyone from the premisses! Well, the bridal party backed up the newlyweds and it was close to an honest to goodness rumble scene.

Cooler heads prevailed when the police arrived and Alex's Step Dad negotiated with the police and owners to get things settled. The owners appologized for going a little overboard while we promised to cool the burnouts. The police did remain on scene for the remainder of the evening, but all went well after that. I must admit, this was the first reception that I have stayed till the end and has earned instant legendary status. What a way to start two people's life together. Now that's a story for their Grand Kids someday. Congrats to Dev and Alex. You guys make a great couple!

Pine Grove Children's Aid had its annual car show on July 27th, 2008.
Organized by Charlie and Judy Zimmerman, this show usually has quite a turnout. It's located behind the North End Fire Company on North Tulpehocken St in Pine Grove. This show's proceeds benefit the "Children's Aid" charity. There are trophies awarded in each class, while entertainment was provided by Flamin' Dick and the Hot Rods. There plenty of good things to eat and drink. There was also a chinese auction going on as well.

It was a really nice day to hang out, enjoy cold drinks and grilled goodies, and listen to "Flaming Dick and the Hot Rods" play some 50's & 60's tunes. Several garage club members showed cars at this event. See if you can pick them all out. Keep in mind, no burnouts at this event as the police were hiding around the corner to ticket everyone who used the throttle pedal with too much enthusiasm. Enjoy the pictures, I'll let them speak for themselves.

Circuit Saturday's "4-speed" route returns strong after a month of "No shows":
Our fourth run of the new "Circuit Saturday" route, the 4-speed route, turned out to be a great evening to ride. After last month when we had no one show up to lead the route, this route started out loaded. I showed up at Kauffman's only to realize that I forgot my camera. I left Melissa to hitch with Jason Sweinhart while Doug led to the second stop and ran for my camera. While I was gone, a Mustang club showed up at Kauffman's just as Doug was ready to pull out. They stated they wanted to get a meal, and with Kauffman's Chicken, who could blame them. They assured us they would catch up.

With that, I met the group at our second stop and a camera in hand. We enjoyed some ice cream and drinks at Raub's while Dave relayed his truck buying experience earlier in the day. We were getting a bit behind on time, so off we went to the third stop. With the corn high and the usual Amish buggy passing us, the scenery was just perfect. After the allotted time to chat and regroup, off to Colebrook.

As we cruised through Mount Gretna, there was an art festival in progress. You should have heard the comments about the train of hot rods cruising through the small town. Upon arriving at the Colebrook Twin Kiss, we found the Mustang club had beaten us there. What a nice bunch of people and some sweet rides. We had a lot to talk about with our Mustang project and general club stuff, we just hung there till we were ready to ride. Mustangs in tow, we headed into Lebanon for our final stop of the evening at Sheetz. We knew already we couldn't get to Coleman's Park as it was dusk and it closed for the evening. We enjoyed our new freinds company a little longer before parting for home. It was a little late and with the Great Pottsville cruise the next day, we opted not to do a lap through lebanon. (Next time!) Anyway, we'll look forward to meeting up with these cool cruisers again sometime.

Some Final Thoughts:
Don't worry, I didn't forget the "Great Pottsville Cruise" event! I am still working on writing it up, so I will include it in the next newsletter. There were just too many pics and participants to mention before my deadline. It was a great event with some unusual tales to tell. Watch for it!

While you surf the net, don't forget to visit our "YouTube" page at
http://www.youtube.com/ . Remember to rate the videos so I know what is liked and how to improve my video skills. I have many old club member's videos I am editing and uploading. If you have a tape to put on the site, get it to me and I will burn it to a DVD for you and get it on the site. (Don't worry, I'll get the tapes/photos back ASAP)

As always, any suggestions for the web site are always appreciated. I am ALWAYS trying to sit down with some members and get some stories, car history, and pictures posted for everyone's enjoyment. Please feel free to dig out some photos and contact me. I will be out there with a digital camera and digital camcorder, so when there is a race, show, or cruise, let me know you will be there and I will attempt to catch it digitally.

See you next update, Denny Aungst (GC member #83 and web site administrator)
