First attempt at 100 MPH Club!

This is the first time that my car has ever been on a trailer. Dave is hauling it for me. It's not all that impressive of a speed but we figured that after being parked such a long time, we didn't want to chance breaking down with no way home!    First time ever on a trailer!

Results:
Dial= ***
R/T= .617
60'= 2.575
330'=6.805
660'= 10.273
MPH= 70.81
1000'= 13.295
1/4 mi.= 15.825
MPH= 90.03

So, How did the day go?

First, I decided to take a time shot (practice race) immediately upon arrival without any tuning changes to give me a base to work with. (P.S. Great reaction time for first time in several years!)

As you can see, the car runs almost exactly on the factory times and speeds. The only improvements made to this car were:

  • 2 1/2" tailpipes were installed instead of the 2"
  • Clutch fan replaced the original 4 blade fan.

So, what did we do then?
Results #2:
Dial= ***
R/T= .857
60'= 2.265
330'= 6.791
660'= 10.225
MPH= 70.88
1000'= 13.243
1/4 mi.= 15.776
MPH= 89.97
Results #3:
Dial= ***
R/T= .714
60'= 2.651
330'= 6.893
660'= 10.425
MPH= 68.90
1000'= 13.507
1/4 mi.= 16.057
MPH= 89.20

Here's what we adjusted:

  • removed air cleaner
  • adjusted the timing from 10 degrees to 15 degrees advanced.
  • adjusted the air pressure to 25 pounds from 35 pounds.

(I apologize for the picture quality. It was getting quite dark as I took the picture. I'm still getting used to the digital camera!)

Comments (Results #2):

    The adjustments seemed to give me one tenth of a second all the way through the measurements, BUT gave me an ever so slight MPH drop.

Adjustments:
  • Left timing where it was.
  • Dropped air pressure 5 more pounds to 20.

.

Comments (Results #3):

    Improved slightly on reaction time, but dropped in time and speed. Realizing that my best times and speed were as it was before, we began to change the car back to the way it was. Only thing we did was to leave the air cleaner removed.

First round elimination!
What happened?

Results #4:
Dial= 15.71
R/T= 1.077
60'= 2.577
330'= 6.770
660'= 10.175
MPH= 72.18
1000'= 13.136
1/4 mi.= 15.615
MPH= 91.43

Well, I blew it! I slept on the line. (BAD reaction time) Even so I had a significant improvement in time and MPH. The only inconsistent part was the 1/4 mile info.

I was ahead of the opponent and left up, hitting the brakes. I finished first but broke out of my dial in by one tenth. I should've stayed an it to see what I would have done!
