This is the first time that my car has ever been to Numedia Dragway.
I found out that they have a street racing program also. They give you the opportunity
to become a member of it's 100 MPH club. I didn't touch the car since last week at
Beaver Springs. I assumed the Nitrous bottle was empty for the last race at Beaver,
but I didn't get to fill the tank for today.
Chris Ives, however, loaned me a fresh bottle to get in to the
100 MPH club here. Should have been a breeze, right? Wrong. As you can see on the
results of the first time slip, the power was not there, and a severe miss was still
present from last week! Besides, the temperature was 85 degrees, the humidity
was 95, and the baometer was 29.68. Definitely not good drag racing weather!

So, How did the day go?
First, I decided to take a time shot (practice race) immediately upon
arrival without any tuning changes to give me a base to work with. (P.S. I used my
original bottle, also.)
As you can see, the car runs almost exactly the same as the last run last week. Assuming
that the reason for the miss in the engine to be present, it must have really been
an empty Nitrous Bottle causing the problem. Here is where Chris comes in. He loaned
me the bottle and I attempt it again. |

 |
Comments (Results #2):
Here we turned on the new Nitrous. No improvement! Because of the miss, (or maybe
the track) I had NO wheelspin, and my times are improved on the short side. Problem
is as I go father and faster the car misses even more! Now I am worried that I burned
a valve last week, so I pulled the plugs looking for metal on the tips. They looked
fine, well, maybe a little lean, but at least no pieces. |
|
Comments (Results #3):
Slipped on the reaction time, I was doing VERY well. Any way, shifting
the plug gap a bit helped some, but I still noticed the miss. Chris and I decided
to check the timing. THAT MUST HAVE BEEN IT! The timing mysteriously jumped from
8 before TDC to 2! The distributor was tight and all, and the change must have happened
when it started missing last week. That is what I thought was the bottle going empty.
Lets see what happened in results #4. |
First round elimination!
Comments (Results #4):
Dialed in a 14.00 to be sure I don't break out. Wrong! This time
the other car was on its dial in pretty well. When I slipped off the nitrous button
for a split second, he got me by a fender. At least I made the 100 MPH club!
Finally. That time it didn't miss at all. The times
were about correct even though the speed was down a little. I was told that that
would happen here. Maybe I could get into the 13's now. Any way the weather wasn't
cooperating tonight, so into first round of eliminations.
Grudge match vs. Chris Ives
What happened? (Results #5):
Well, I may have tree'd Chris, but his big block camaro just had too
much for me to deal with. Doesn't matter, I had lots of fun again. See ya next time!
