The next GC meeting will be held as usual on the first Thursday of
the month, February 7th, 2008. The February meeting will be held at Andy Jensen's
"Jensensenginetech.com" shop in Nescopeck. There will be another engine on the dyno... The
time for this meeting is the usual 7:00 with the official meeting starting around
7:30. E-mail us for directions.
What went on at the last meeting?:
Matt Doyle hosted the "Membership Renewal" meeting at his
garage in Williamstown. There was quite a turnout and Matt had a nice spread of food
with several crock pots going and a large platter of cold shrimp and cocktail sauce.
Many members got their dues paid and picked up some stickers and T shirts. Even Matt's
dog had a T-shirt made up for it. Check out the picture to the right.
Participants who signed the roster included Chas Pinkerton, Ed Wassell,
Derek Griffiths, Kerry Moyer, Dave Lehr, Denny Aungst, Mike Potts, Bill Schoffstall,
Devin Trexler, Paul Skelton, Kyle Sitlinger, Melvie Reichert, Kris Warfel, Bob Zubrickie,
Doug Garrison, Chal Schoffstall, John Shultz, Lloyd George, Ken Horning, Bob Myers,

Woodring, Keith Wirt, Jim Zerby, Butch Markel, Jeff Zimmerman, Chris Ives, Jesse
Abdo, Jeff Doud, Marlie Whitcomb III, Marlin Whitcomb Sr., Scott Runkle, Shawn Runkle,
Kevin Hoffman Sr., Jim Beard, Logan Beard, Dave Snyder, Jessica Henry, George Nall, Eric Getz, Eric Kochenour, Tab Bergey, and
of course, Matt Doyle. (If I mis-spelled your name, please correct me. I had a difficult
time reading a few on the roster.)

Club Reminders
If you receive a newsletter in the mail and would rather have
e-mail, please let us know. Also if you don't receive a newsletter in the mail and
want one, get Chris Ives your address. All new member's will fill out a contact info
form and check whether they wish to receive a printed version or not.
Yearly dues are here. January was the month to renew your dues,
but you can do it at any time. If you want the club to keep up with the cool activities,
we need to see members renew and stay active.
Doug Garrison's Club Jackets
Members received their jackets at this meeting. Only three were
on back order. As you can see in the pictures to the left and below, they were a
hit. The next order for new jackets is already developing. See Doug Garrison, Mike
Potts, or Denny Aungst about getting your club jacket.
SPEED ZONE
The annual speed zone cart race has not been scheduled - yet.
Bob Zubrickie, Ed Rist, and Doug Garrison have stepped up &
have been researching tracks locally. They are making calls and trying to get the
ball rolling for sometime in February. Details will be provided at the February club
meeting.
See our former event pictures at the SPEED ZONE page. Also, sign up to keep up on the
latest discussion and put your ideas forward on our message board at http://www.keystonegarageclub.com/phpBB/ under
the "events" forum.
Barrett Jackson Party
This year the Barrett Jackson Party was be held at GC member Scott
Peters' garage in Williamstown. See details below.
Chris Ives' Movie
A Myspace page is being created for the movie by
Derick Griffiths to promote it and there will be a meeting on January 30th at Chris
Ives' place starting around 7:00 PM for anyone interested in participating in ANY
way. Heck, read the script to see
if you want a part!
Matt Murphy's club event idea has gotten approval from Beaver
Bob to get the event on Beaver Springs Schedule for 4 seperate events. Actually we
are attaching our name to Beaver Bob's program.
The only sticking point in the discussion of event rules at the
moment is a growing disagreement about track prep. In the interest of safety, Beaver
Bob has decided to prep the track with VHT, where some members were excited to have
a chance over some of the big guns with the unprepped track.
Visit www.beaversprings.com for up to date details on the events and a full schedule for the year.

Lyken's Masonic Lodge Poker Run
Scott Peters came to us with a new event idea that I feel we should
address. Due to the rise in fuel costs, his masonic lodge needs to have a fund raiser
to offset the heating costs for the year. He wants to arrange a Poker Run, which
he would like the Garage Club to help him organize.
Scott feels that our help with organization, promotion, and participation
will give them a much larger turnout than they would have otherwise.
Never been on a Poker Run? What you do is show up at a designated
starting point to sign it, then you follow marks on the road over a scenic route
to predetermined stops. At these stops, a participant picks up items that prove he
followed the route. Upon arrival at the end point, the participants draw a hand of
poker. The best hand at the end of the day wins the pot.
These routes are not timed, so speed isn't a factor. It is a safe
cruising activity. Watch for more information as we get details together.
At this time we closed the official meeting and got back to our
usual bench racing.
The Garage Club officially welcomes new members:
Matt Doyle has been doing a great job of getting to the people who would like to
join the club. He has signed up a few members since the last update so I will refresh
the welcome. As Dave stated previously, "Thank you for joining the Keystone
Garage Club. For the little bit of money you paid to join, you get a hell of a lot.
There’s a lot of clubs around but we do the cool stuff. Cool meetings at cool places.
Cool activities like our Cruise Circuits, selling parts at Carlisle events, drag
racing, Dirt racing etc. & our web site kicks ass. Go to http://www.keystonegarageclub.com/
for all the club info. Members get their own page with pictures of their car (s)
too. Send your info to Denny at w31@comcast.net. Ask me Questions, Dave at cayne66@comcast.net

"Barrett Jackson Party"
has grown this year:
This year the Barret Jackson Party was held at GC member Scott Peters'
garage in Williamstown. GC member Shane Ressler had his projection system set up
for an 8 foot big screen. He broadcast the auction with the big screen while three
computer screens were set up to preview the upcoming cars. Frank Peters also was
there with his die cutting vinyl decal machines demonstrating how they make signs
and stickers. (See Scott's new sign to the right.)
The evening started with a large spread of food, two different barrells of beer and
a fridge full of soda. Some members still brought a covered dish, but mostly the
works were supplied by Scott Peters and family. We got things rolling about 7:30
or so. The auction party was scheduled for 6 to 12 o'clock, but it started before
that and went on after. Scott even gave out door prize tickets for gift bags that
he chanced off through out the evening. Scott and Sheryl really went all out and
we can't thank him enough for a successful event. We also would like to thank Shane
Ressler for the use of his DJ equipment. It made the auction much easier to follow
for the larger group of people.
.
.
Attendance included Scott & Sheryl Peters, Shane Ressler, Melvie Reichert, Dave
Lehr, Matt & Karen Doyle, Denny & Melissa Aungst, Red Florida, Kris Warfel,
Butch Hechler, Jess Henry, Frank Peters, Frank Peters Jr., Robert Hoffman, Jim Beard,
Logan Beard, Mike Potts, Chas Pinkerton, Justin Pinkerton, Kerry Moyer, Chris Ives,
Rob Lefever, Kelsey Henry, and two young men who I missed their last names, Andy
and Ethan.
.
.
.
Who won the bids? Well our first winner was Sheryl Peters who bid
on a '65 Corvette Convertible powered by a 396/425 hp and 4 speed transmission. The
close was $92,500. Cheryl also won later in the evening on a '70 AAR 'Cuda with a
matching numbers 340 "six pack", 4 speed, and factory bench seat. This
also went for a healthy $92,000. This pot was also a "double pot" due to
a roll over from the previous auction that everyone under bid. That was for a '71
Olds 442 with a 455 ram air, but a NON-W30, 4 speed, and AC that went for a cool
$100,000.
Red Florida was the second big winner of the evening. Red actually won the most guesses.
Red turned on late in the evening winning the last three auctions. First was for
a '69 Charge "500". This was real Nascar tribute charger with all of it's
original sheet metal that went for $110,000. Next win was a '68 Mustang with a 428
Cobra Jet but backed by an automatic transmission, white with a red interior that
went for $82,000. Finally Red won the last of the evening on a custom black '67 GTO
powered by a fully dressed 400 Pontiac topped by side draft Webers with a perfect
stance and big wheels and brakes. That ride went for $120,000.
Kerry Moyer picked up a win on a '70 Cuda with a numbers matching 440 "six pack"
and 4 speed that went for $87,500.
Chas Pinkerton won a guess on a '66 Nova custom hot rod that was powered by a big
502 cube engine and stopped with very big brakes under the large diameter wheels
that bid up to $100,000.
Chris Ives guessed correctly on a '70 Chevelle SS454 convertible with an LS5 engine
and 4 speed. The correct amount was $82,000.
Chris Warfel won on the only time he even made a wager. He guessed correctly on a
'67 Corvette convertible powered by a 427 and 4 speed at a $110,000 price tag.
I also made a good guess winning the pot when I estimated the price of a '68 Shelby
GT350 with a 302 and automatic. This was a red car with a white convertible top and
went for $90,000.
We missed a few cars that we wanted to guess the price because of
commercial breaks, but we just forwarded the bets onto later cars. Most of us felt
that we were guessing very high based on past year's pricing and this year, the dollars
just didn't seem to be there. A few of the cars, I know I wished I could have bid
on. We also noticed street rods were down, restored originals were a little low,
but the custom muscle cars were up.
It's always a lot of fun and we all actually learn a few things about
some obscure cars while regretting selling some of our vehicles from years ago. If
you want to come to the next one, remember, you don't need to bet to attend. You
can still come down and watch the auction and socialize...
Preview of February Meeting at Jensen's Engine Tech:
The February meeting will be held at Andy Jensen’s place. We are expecting a fantastic
turnout yet again. Jensen
Engine Tech is a spectacular place to meet and we are lucky
to have him as a member. There are engines of all kinds in all stages of being built,
the shop is clean and well organized, and the fastest dependable engines around seem
to originate here.
Andy has told us that he will have a dyno tuning session in the works
for that evening. It will be a customer's aluminum head, 555 cubic inch big block
Chevy drag motor that was purchased of "Race Junk". Andy didn't build this
engine, but the customer wants Andy to tune it for him. See last year's video of
Doug Garrison's new powerplant to the right.
"Diary of an American Street Racer"" organizing
meeting held December 25th:
Several garage club members, including Dave Lehr, Denny & Melissa
Aungst, Derek Griffiths, and Chris Ives sat down to get some progress done on our
movie schedule. It was held at Chris Ives' home in Ashland. Progress included going
over our correspondence with the guys from Don's Performance about the import scenes,
breaking down scenes into shot sequences, adding a scene to use as practice this
month, and some actor/actress possibilities.
Some Final Thoughts:
While you surf the net, don't forget to visit our "YouTube"
page at http://www.youtube.com/ . Remember to rate the
videos so I know what is liked and how to improve my video skills. I have many old
club member's videos I am editing and uploading. If you have a tape to put on the
site, get it to me and I will burn it to a DVD for you and get it on the site. (Don't
worry, I'll get the tapes/photos back ASAP)
As always, any suggestions for the web site are always appreciated. I am ALWAYS trying
to sit down with some members and get some stories, car history, and pictures posted
for everyone's enjoyment. Please feel free to dig out some photos and contact me.
I will be out there with a digital camera and digital camcorder, so when there is
a race, show, or cruise, let me know you will be there and I will attempt to catch
it digitally.
See you next update, Denny Aungst (GC member #83 and web site administrator)
